Expertise

Dr. Andrea completed her studies at UCIMED Medical School in San Jose, where she finished in 2006 completing the rotatory intern year at Hospital San Juan de Dios, Hospital Mexico and Hospital National de Niños.

During her last year she completed a lapse of clinical rotations with Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts at Boston’s Children’s Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital, in the area of pediatric and pediatric endocrinology.

For the longest time Dr. Andrea planned to become a Pediatrician, hence her rotations at Harvard Medicals School; however she decided to take a year gaining working experience after medical school before applying to residency, period of time where she came to live along her husband in Liberia, Guanacaste. During this period she worked with the Proyecto Epidemiologico Guanacaste, a medical clinical trial on the effectiveness of use of one of the HPV vaccines and its impact on cervical cancer, between Costa Rican investigators and the National Cancer Institute of the United States. She had the opportunity to see a different side of what medicine is and can offer; allowing her to decide that being with the patient one on one is what she loves. So, she decided to open her private practice before applying to residency to work in the clinical part of medicine again. This is when she joined Dr. Anwar Gazel.

Dr. Andrea, loved what she encounter in Playa Grande, the warmth of its people and the possibility to help and make a difference; so, shortly after the thought of opening her private practice along Dr. Anwar led to the formation of Playa Grande Clinic.
